Cats are useless, dogs serve a purpose. I'm not clever, in not novel, and I don't pretend to be. I've accepted that for the rest of my career I will deal with these companies' ineptitude, as I have for the past I'm sure it's due to some kind of legacy deal. I think what would resolve this issue for Microsoft is to have a video preference you can set in control panel under display that you can choose a default resolution windows should use if no monitor is detected and a fail safe at startup, maybe holding down a modifier key at boot that would bypass that setting and default back to x in case of things going sideways.
To add to this list, I use ScreenConnect via the ConnectWise Automate agent that is deployed on all our machines, and ScreenConnect behaves this way on a headless system I have powered on as well. It is annoying, I feel you. Can you plug a monitor into the machine and log into it at all? My line of thinking I have no idea if this would work is plug in the monitor, log in to the machine at the machine, change resolution if need be, log into it using TeamViewer.
I refer to this effect as "everyone wants the latest and greatest, but they want it to work exactly like the old one. People bought new computers with Vista, complained that it wasn't like XP People bought new computers with Windows 7, complained that it wasn't like XP People bought new computers with Windows 8, complained that it wasn't like XP or 7 People upgraded to Windows 10, complained that it wasn't like 7.
Get a new phone? Now you have days or weeks of getting frustrated because it doesn't work like your old one. All the spare monitors around the office are VGA only. I searched various closets and hiding spots. Plugged a VGA monitor into the adapter. Booted up, no video. I figure, "no problem, I'll remote in and configure the USB adapter driver", but the "modern app" interface is unworkable at x Anyway, none of it matters anymore.
As noted above, I was able to adjust the resolution with the registry changes. I suspect they unplugged it somehow. So quickest is going to be to sell them a modern monitor, cheapest is going to be to get a DP-VGA adapter. Monitors, I have on hand. DP-VGA adapter is a few days away. It's a legacy thing when Windows can't tell wth is going on with the monitor, the reason they haven't changed it is until recent years is it's much easier for a modern screen to display much lower res than for a lower res screen to display higher, and we're not all working on p screens, especially when working in engineering development envrioments, lots of tiny touch screens.
Teamviewer is not the best for headless systems, in these situations I've peronally used Solarwinds Take Control, it's pricey but can change the resolution even when it's headless. Decent video drivers will let you manually set the resolution once it thinks there is a "display" attached.
RDP works completely differently, it basically gives you the local resolution generates the screens locally , instead of a picture of the remote screen. So as long as you can make an RDP connection to the PC, you can install whatever remote control agent or anything else you want.
You asked for it. It's the internet, I am under no delusion that soft-handed office workers are going to listen to reason about their useless animals they wuv. Your echo chamber doesn't mean anything to someone with an IQ higher than ambient room temperature. By the way, I am referring to real dogs not the purse rats people carry around as a fashion statement. Cats are fine, they are just useless beyond the value some associate to them because they make them feel warm and fuzzy.
Are arguably the most useful domesticated animal that has or will ever exist. I have used dogs in a professional capacity in more than one vocation. A cat could never do any of these jobs in any capacity, nor would it want to.
Domestically a dog is a real companion, that can and will train to follow specific commands at any moment. This includes fierce protection for you, and anyone else you want. They will naturally love and protect a family, and view that family as it's pack. A trained dog's obedience is second to none. They will fight to the death to protect you.
A cat wouldn't even notice if you died, and serves no utility sans rodent maintenance and knocking things off of other things for fun. Cats: Eat disease ridden creatures, flick their feces and urine about the bathroom and dwelling for fun, knock crap off every counter, walk in said feces then on eating surfaces and countertops, are nocturnal that's fun to deal with and serve no other utility beyond 'being cute'. Barn cats are useful, and I've had them growing up, but aside from that Pretty much any dog.

Eat disease ridden creatures, flick their feces and urine about the bathroom and dwelling for fun , knock crap off every counter, walk in said feces then on eating surfaces and countertops, are nocturnal that's fun to deal with and serve no other utility beyond 'being cute'. I have three cats at the moment. I have been around cats and dogs all my life and have NEVER had a cat flick their feces or urine anywhere.
Are you thinking of monkeys? If a cat is urinating or pooping outside of the box, there is a medical issue UTI or some sort of stress. Since computers are binary in nature, we multiply by two, giving us a number with it's own following.
An we all know the zero is nothing, leaving us with Therefore, x is the answer to everything. So, either it's default to the definition of VGA standard display; or someone at Microsoft really loves Atari. Because 9's are magic numbers. If you don't believe me, you will be befuddled to learn there are no orange kangaroo's in Denmark. You are always doing a mod 9 when you add a numbers digits and keep adding the digits of your answers till you have a single digit. If you are adding digits, you can actually just omit any extra 9's altogether.
An old accounting audit trick if you find errors is to see if the error is a multiple of 9. If so, you've transposed digits. I can multiply any six digit number by in my head. Subtract ONE from the number, and that number will be the first six digits of the answer. Now subtract each of those digits from 9, and those answers will be the last six digits of the answer.
Doesn't matter how many digits, just multiply by the all 9 number with the same number of digits. I taught this to some 8th graders when I was substitute teaching for a math teacher. Next day, some of them went up to the board, asked the teacher to supply a six digit number, they added x , and wrote out the answer.
They didn't tell him how they did it, just that "Mr. Hatcher taught us how". Mr Dalia thought I was a genius. I was a math geek WAY before I became a computer geek. Spice 13 flag Report. This is my view of Win7 in Teamviewer right now: cl. Can you force the resolution using your graphics card drivers? I don't know if that would work because you don't have any physical displays attached.
Your best bet would probably to use Remote desktop - it isn't affected by display size on the remote computer - it uses your local display size. Hi Chris, thanks for your reply. I did try an custom resolution setting but indeed it do not work without a display. So I installed Remote Desktop and now it works fine! I have the same problem with windows 7 enterprise laptop. My current workaround is to connect a monitor.
Note that I never use the monitor, I just connect it. A decent solution or even a hardware dongle which can fake a connected display would be nice. Show 2 more comments. Sorted by: Reset to default. I don't know why you're facing this problem on a laptop. Is your laptop monitor busted? There are two reasons: The part is practical. I tried leaving the lid slightly open in the first few weeks and my cat kept walking over it, closing the lid.
But the main reason is that it annoys me that there was no clean solution for this. I can RDP into laptops with any resolution I want. No problems when using that protocol. No problem when using X-windows. It is a work laptop and I already asked for a way to RDP to the laptop. I got neither that nor my backup question which was a VM with a copy of the work software. That leaves me with a physical laptop on which I am allowed to install teamviewer but not RDP.
Hennes, I think I still don't fully understand the problem you're facing. I decided to reproduce your problem and I installed TeamViewer as well as RealVNC server on my notebook, set them up for remote access and closed the lid. I checked the screen resolution and it was still x my notebook's native screen resolution. However, my notebook is running Windows 8. Show 5 more comments. ChrisN comment is the right answer.
